The First One

If you don’t get anything else out of visiting this site, please know this: You’re not alone.

Wherever you’re at on the sliding scale of “Totally dealing with my depression in a surprisingly healthy way,” to, “Haven’t showered in three days and today isn’t looking too good either,” please know I’m just proud of you for showing up here today!

I love the internet for many reasons – Netflix, Facebook, Amazon Prime (talk about a real life saver for those of us with social anxiety and the inability to be in a store for any amount of time), and of course, Google. I Google pretty much everything. “How to talk to kids,” “Is it ok if my cat just ate half a pound of dethawed peas?” “How long can I go without seeing a dentist after a filling falls out?” (Again, thank you, anxiety for making physical health next to impossible to deal with in a timely manner). I am always relieved to see I’m not the first person to have these questions. There is such comfort in knowing other people’s fillings fall out, and their cat eats stupid things, and they also don’t know how to hold a conversation with a seven year old.

I hope this site provides a similar comfort for those of us with deeper questions.

How do you get out of bed every morning? Does it ever get better? Am I the only one with these thoughts? Does anyone understand me? Am I alone?

My goal is to create a community of people who share their different experiences in learning to live with anxiety and depression. Their story might not be your story, but I bet you’ll be surprised at the similarities. So go ahead, click around, read some stories, and find some comfort.
